The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports

The “Arlie” by Christine A. Moore Millinery

When I think of the Kentucky Derby, I think fashion. It’s hard to believe that the “Run for the Roses” is just two weeks away. I love everything about the Kentucky Derby, or should I say, “the most exciting two minutes in sports.” Every year I look forward to sipping on a Mint Julep while wearing my best custom suit and seeing all the great hats the stars show up in. Finding an outfit is one thing, but on Derby Day all eyes are on the hats.

This year I am honored to partner with the ever so talented Christine A. Moore, designer and owner of Christine A Moore Millinery. Moore, based in New York City, has been creating hats professionally for nearly twenty years. Christine designs a wide range of collections, but she is best known for her Derby collection. Christine has been on the TODAY Show for the past four years live from Churchill Downs, where NBC calls her, “the hat designer to the Triple Crown.” Her hats have been on magazine covers, television shows, news stations and at Joseph Wendt Custom Clothiers.

Picking out the perfect hat is an art. My motto is “Go big or go home,” which is why I think the “Arlie” is the quintessential “Derby” hat for women  You can’t go wrong with it. For men, I recommend a Fedora or Trilby. Even if you can’t be in Louisville for the race, dress like you’re at Churchill Downs. Ladies should wear a hat that is dramatic and makes a statement. Your hat will set the tone for your entire outfit.

Stop into Joseph Wendt Custom Clothiers to pick out your ‘impact hat’ for your Derby party. We carry hats for both men and women, but have a larger selection of mens hats
