FALL Men’s Style Guide Infographic

It’s that time of year again! The cool (kinda), crisp breeze has replaced the humid summer air, football stadiums are filled with cheering fans, and the leaves outside are beginning to change colors (at least for our friends up north). While those of us in Southwest Florida don’t get the full fall effect, we can at least take on many of the fall fashions. This infographic by Famous Outfits encourages men to choose texture-rich clothing with an earth toned palette that can be easily layered for warmth.

‘Tis the Season for Weddings: What you need to know to look your best

weddingsThe summertime doesn’t just welcome warm climate, beautiful scenery and relaxing times. It also welcomes the start of wedding season. Summer weddings are gorgeous and heart warming. Unfortunately, your heart isn’t the only thing getting warm. Summer weddings are notoriously hot and can make any guest uncomfortable, especially the men. Men have always been expected to wear penguin suits on formal occasions such as, weddings. However, at Joseph Wendt Custom Clothiers, we have the right tips for every man as they suit up for a lively night of celebrating.

Here are some of the tips and guidelines to follow when attending a summer wedding. Keep in mind though, this isn’t your day so don’t be to over the top to where you over throw the bride and groom. Be comfortable and stylish with your outfit and enjoy it!

THE SUIT

The suit is the most important part of any mans ensemble. Nowadays, men aren’t expected to wear heavy, black tuxedos to any wedding. Our most important rule is to have fun with what you’re wearing. Wear a khaki suit or patterned jacket. As long, as the dress shirt matches and your confidence shows in what you’re wearing, GO FOR IT. Look for a slim, nice fitting suit or jacket when browsing for outfits. With the warm temperatures, stick to linens or cottons to avoid the embarrassing sweat marks at the reception.

THE TIE

This is usually the detail of the outfit that men get most creative with. We agree that getting creative with a tie can brighten up any old suit. It also lets others see what your personality is really like if you get quirky with these details. Always go for a windsor knot, whether you do a half or full windsor depends on your head size. If you have a bigger head, go for a full windsor, and if you have a smaller head go for a half windsor.

THE SHOES

Get a white buck skin shoe. TheY go with everything and they add a point of interest to any look. They may get dirty depending on if its an outdoor occasion or not but you will look better with it anyway.

THE DRESS SHIRT

Its the summertime so that means you should go for more relaxed colors, like a light pink or lavender. Depending on how crazy you are planning on going with the suit jacket and tie maybe go for a light gray. Either way, a nice light lavender or pink can add a pop of color to any outfit, especially if you’re not planning on going over the top.

New Baseball Fashions

It’s spring, which means it’s baseball season!  Sports fans and fashion fans that we are, we always keep an eye on changing uniform designs, making certain to keep track of the kinds of changes, good or bad, that appear in those erstwhile duds.  After all, a team’s entire character can be truly defined by the look they sport.  And while some…  Recent changes haven’t…  Been very positive (*cough*2012 Miami Marlins uniforms*cough cough!*)…  And baseball as a whole, unlike football, rarely changes their looks, there were still a few changes to make note of as the season opened on Sunday.  Let’s take a quick look, ignoring extremely minor changes, like the Cleveland Indians changing what they identify as their primary logo, but not actually changing their uniforms.  We’re only looking at the major new uniforms, pretty much all of which are new “alternate” uniforms.

Atlanta Braves

Atlanta-Braves-NewThis is the new Braves alternate uniform, called the “military appreciation” jersey.  Red has always been part of the Braves color scheme, but this one is unique because it ditches the iconic tomahawk from the Braves logo, and adds a patriotic flourish of stars inside the logo script.  We like it!  It’s a bit garish for our tastes, but not too much (*cough*2012 Miami Marlins uniforms*cough cough!*), and in such a staid and old fashioned league like MLB, a splash of color is appreciated.  Salute!

Chicago Cubs

New-Chicago-Cubs

The Cubs actually introduced a ridiculous ten alternate jerseys to be used this season, but this one is out favorite, the “main” alternate road jersey.  It’s a total throwback to the Cubs’ looks from the 1920s, a golden age for baseball, and just reeks of the history and American-ness of Major League Baseball.  Just wonderful.

Kansas City Royals

BZ7OkaiCEAAgE5Y

The Kansas City Royals rolled this beauty out recently, and we really love it.  It makes great use of the Royals’ colors, and features the team’s “KC” logo for the first time on the actual uniform.  Unlike a lot of alternate jerseys, which try their hardest to look “weird,” this one looks like it could have been the actual Royals uniform in another timeline.  The blues and piping just look perfect.

San Francisco Giants

BfVEIsECYAAEU_I

Another winner, this alternate jersey uses the Giants’ orange color to good effect, but the real winner here is the throwback script and black piping, which haven’t been seen in a Giants uniform since 1982.  A great combination of modern and classic, exactly what an alternate uniform should be.

Stylish in the NFL

Our own intrepid leader, Joey Wendt, attended the 2014 NFL Owners’ meetings in Orlando this week, where all of the NFL’s coaches, managers, GMs and owners were putting their heads together to discuss the future of the League.  We’ve dressed a lot of NFL players and personnel in our time, and Joey is always out there making sure that the NFL’s finest are looking their best!

In honor of the occasion, let’s take a look back at some of the NFL’s most stylishly sartorial men from over the League’s long history.  Let’s be honest, being stylish and in the NFL is a relatively recent development (which we’d like to think we had something to do with! :D), so most of these guys are of a recent vintage.

Dancing with the Doctor

It’s been a very long time since we’ve taken a trip into a nerdy subject, so it’s a great time to revisit some of the fun of sci-fi fashion!  We’ve previously gone over visions of the future, “Star Trek” uniforms, and more, but this time we’re taking a look at a sci-fi staple that has made coming up with a new outfit every few years a staple: “Doctor Who.”

The_Doctor

If you aren’t familiar, “Doctor Who” is a British television series about an alien from the planet Gallifrey who goes by the self-appointed title of “The Doctor,” because he sees himself as someone who helps and fixes things and people.  He travels throughout the breadth of time and space in his spaceship/time machine, the TARDIS, which is broken, and so is stuck disguised as a 1963-period blue British Police Box on the outside.

The show has been running since 1963, and since actors aren’t immortal, The Doctor has been played by a multitude of actors over the years.  The show dealt with this very creatively.  The Doctor, being an alien “Time Lord,” has the ability to “regenerate” whenever he’s fatally injured, but not injured so severely that he dies outright.  He becomes a new man, and, while still a rebirth of the same person, has a new face, new personality quirks, and new tastes, including in fashion.  The Doctor tends to stick to one or two outfits throughout an incarnation’s tenure, and with the recent reveal of the newest Doctor, the 12th, and his new outfit, it seemed like a perfect time to have some fun, and look back at 51 years of a quirky, hyperactive fictional alien’s bizarre fashion choices!

Last Minute Tips for Valentine’s Day

Today is the big day for you and your significant other!  Have you been too busy to figure out how to be as sartorially impressive to your date as you will be romantically?  Don’t despair, we’ve got you covered!  Or, rather, the Cornell Daily Sun in Upstate New York has you covered.  The newspaper’s Eric Ding wrote a compact, common sense set of last-minute tips last year, and even though they’re ostensibly for a busy student, they’re really perfect for just about any man if you’re in a rush in these final hours (and he even got saucy at the end there!).  Check them out below, and be sure to read the original article HERE.

valentines-day-hearts-to-color

The Color Red

Come on, it’s Valentine’s Day. The color red, or a different hue of it (maroon or pink, for example) should be the centerpiece of the outfit. However, this doesn’t mean that you should wear red everything. Red is a very passionate and vibrant color, capable of making your lady fall in love with you all over again, but also capable of being an eyesore when handled improperly. To do the former, only wear one red item, whether it be a red dress shirt, a red tie, a red scarf or even a red blazer. Avoid looking tacky or too over the top and don’t overdo it—  no matter how sexy you might think you look in a red suit.

Suit & Tie

Or maybe just a tie, if a suit seems like too much. If you’re the type of person who wouldn’t wear a tie except for very, very dire circumstances, then wearing a tie on Valentine’s Day will indeed impress your lady. And it doesn’t even have to be that formal if you wear the tie along with a checkered button-up shirt and a V-neck sweater. Layering always creates a very stylish and warm ensemble, which is quite appropriate for this tender but chilly day. Valentine’s Day is just for you and her, so dress formally enough to show that it’s a special day, but for the love of God, please don’t outdo her outfit.

The Little Things

If your significant other gave you a gift to wear at some point in your relationship, incorporate it into your outfit. Any watch or accessory that she bought you should definitely be worn to put icing on the already handsome cake. If she bought you a more substantial clothing item, then try to structure an outfit around that item, and see if you can pull one off that would look chic. People love to feel appreciated, so make sure to recognize her gifts.

Balance

Colors are important, but it’s even more important to balance them and tone them down with neutrality. The color red will most likely be the powerhouse color of choice, but that doesn’t mean it should overpower the rest of the outfit. As said before, try to limit yourself to one red item so that the color shines through, but doesn’t bog the outfit down. Red works well with white, black and gray, so try to keep things within those parameters. Express conveniently has its own guide to this momentous day, and Esquire magazine has a couple of outfits picked out just for the occasion.

NFL Fandom Post-Mortem

Football fans that we are, after an incredibly lopsided Super Bowl, we need a little bit of NFL fun before we let football go into hibernation for another six months.  So let’s take a look at how football fans broke down across the country during the NFL Playoffs this year.  Facebook compiled this data last year, and we shared it then, you might recall.  It was an amazing set of maps, shading each county by what team had the most fans of that team on Facebook in that county, and then doing the same for each round of the Playoffs.  They did it a little differently this time, shading the counties by percentage of fans for a specific team in a specific game in the Playoffs.  Just like last time, there’s some weird stuff in there, like random pockets of Seahawks fans in South Jersey, so let’s dive right in and have some fun!
