What shirt collar should you wear?

josephs_cc_dsc0299

Can you name this collar?

Guys, were you aware of the numerous shirt collars out there? You might think of the mandarin collar, but can you name any of the others? You’re probably familiar with the point collar, but did you even know it had a name?

We know many guys out there just pick a shirt of the rack and that’s the end of that. We want to give you some background on the types of collars out there so you don’t end up with a club collar when you actually wanted a button down collar.

Aspects of a collar

According to Real Men Real Style, there are 6 features of a collar:

  • Collar points- tip of the collar
  • Collar point length- distance from collar point to where they meet the collar band
  • Collar band- fabric that wraps around the neck
  • Collar height
  • Tie space- distance between top of folded collar parts when shirt is buttoned
  • Spread- distance between collar points

If all of this sounds like gibberish, the site created a handy illustration to showcase each collar feature.

Bernard Zins Pants

There are pants, your everyday ordinary pants from the department store. They fit ok, they cover your legs and do the job. But don’t you want a pant that is the highest in terms of manufacturing quality, fabric selection, cutting, and innovation? These are the four values that make Bernard Zins one of the top pant makers in the business. You mention this brand, and people in the fashion industry know just who you are talking about.

“You recognize well-done pants when they make you forget those you were just wearing prior”

A History

The company was founded by no other than Bernard Zins. Equipped with an engineering degree from the Arts et Metiers national school, he took a trip to research apparel productivity in the US in 1950. The trip was a formidable moment in his future fashion career. His schooling in engineering led him to understand industrial quality and tailoring, helping him develop many innovations.

In 1967, he founded this company, specializing in high end pants. By 1970, he had a showroom in a famous Parisian district. In the 70s and 80s, he develops multiple innovative techniques for lining, flies, pockets, pleats, and invisible seams. These innovations soon become the standard in pants making. They are used for prestigious brands like Yves Saint Laurent, Yohji Yamamoto, and Pierre Cardin.

10 quality points bernard zins

“Each Bernard Zins style is designed to ensure restraint, comfort, and resistance for an impeccable result.”

In recognition for his work in pants making, Bernard Zins is praised in an event put on by the Printemps Department Store in 1999. Today, Bernard Zins pants can be found in France, as well as the United States, Canada, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Japan. At Joseph Wendt Custom Clothiers, we are proud to be carrying Bernard Zins pants.

Dress to Kill for Your Next Interview

The resumes is polished and sent out, now it’s just time to wait to hear back. Don’t get discouraged during the job hunting process. There will be many positions that won’t respond and let you know of a rejection. It’s important just to keep at it and not to take anything personally. In the beginning, HR reps and hiring managers are solely looking at what you have written on your paper. As hard as you try, it is tough to showcase your unique personality and skill set to your potential new employer.

A classy interview look. Just watch the facial hair. It’s a judgment call but you may be safest just shaving it.

That’s where the interview comes in. You have to nail every aspect of the interview to get the position (no pressure!). That means working on your answers to common interview questions like “What are you biggest strengths and weaknesses?”. It also means presenting yourself appropriately with your manners, body language, and style.

I hate to say it, but one wrong move during an interview, such as being late, can make or break a hiring manager’s decision if they have many candidates lined up. Today, we’re here to help you perfect your interview outfit.

One of the first things you need to do when deciding on an outfit is to assess the company’s culture. If you’re applying to be a host or hostess at a family, chain restaurant, you probably will not require a suit. But that also doesn’t mean you should show up in shorts and flip flops.

One of the best outfits for men to wear is a pressed button down shirt, slacks, and nice dress shoes. This outfit is dressed up, but not too formal. The button down should be a conservative color like blue, white, or black. The pants should match the shirt well. Good colors include navy blue, black, or tan. The shoes should be either black or brown. Here are some good pant and shoe color combinations for your outfit.

Black Pants | Black or Navy Blue

Tan Pants | Light brown, Dark brown, Navy blue

Navy Blue Pants | All pants colors

If you’re unsure whether to go more dressy, bring a sport coat with you. A sport coat will help dress up your button down and slacks. But if you find that other interviewees are not going formal, you can lose the jacket and just carry it with you.

Now it’s time for accessories. This is were you can add a bit of your own style to the outfit. Go for some unique cufflinks or a watch. These subtle items can add some flair to your otherwise conservative outfit.

You’ve got all the items you need to kill it during your next interview. Just make sure you give yourself an hour or so the night before to do some last-minute grooming like shaving or plucking hairs (for those sporting the unibrow).

There you have it! Your complete style guide to look professional during your next interview.

Stylish Stars of the NBA

Basketball players don’t show off their best stuff solely on the court, they make sure to bring their A-game to their off-court outfits. It’s important for basketball stars to become their own brand. Many are following in the footsteps of past superstars like Michael Jordan who pretty much created the branded footwear and sportswear line that many current athletes aspire to. Not all of these athletes will get the chance to design and sell a shoe with their name on it, but a few of them will. Those who perform well both on the court, and know how to cultivate their brand off court are the ones who seem to have the biggest fans and audience.

I’m going to take you through some well known, and not so well known, basketball players who exude style and are doing their best to look great on and off the court.
