Workout Gear for Guys

You want to get in shape and look amazing. Maybe you are doing it to impress others, or maybe you want to do it just for yourself. Either way, you will need the proper gear to get started. You can’t workout in cargo shorts and flip flops, it’s just not safe (or fashionable!).  A few of the basics you need are sneakers, pants/shorts, shirt, and jacket (if it’s cold). Then you will want a gym bag to put it all in.

Sneakers
The thing about sneakers, is that they’re not all made equal. A pair of converse may not be so great for running. And a pair of running shoes may not be best for weight lifting. You need to pick shoes that will match the type of activity you plan to do.

The Best and Worst Dressed NFL Players

Here at Joseph Wendt Custom Clothiers, we have a bit of an obsession with football. We can’t wait for the season to hurry up and get here! Our love for football has even landed us a few big name clients. Former NFL Star and Current TV Anyalyst, Michael Strahan wears our suits! St. Louis Rams offensive tackle Jake Long also ordered his wedding wear from us. NFL superstars Darrelle Revis and Adrian Peterson also got their custom suits from Joseph. We love combining our passion for the NFL with our love of creating great-fitting suits.

Kerry Rhodes

There is a huge movement in sports for athletes to look professional both on and off the field. Players that used to wear ill-fitting clothing for press events, are now ordering custom three piece suits. We love seeing these athletes in perfectly fitted suits, especially ours!

Larry Fitzgerald

Now that so many athletes are expected to wear fashionable clothing, there is a growing trend of creating their own look. Larry Fitzgerald of the Arizona Cardinals has been known to rock three piece suits. He also adds a bit of flair with bright shirts and pocket squares. Fitzgerald’s teammate Kerry Rhodes is also known for his off the field style.

Terrell Suggs in a not so formal, black tie outfit

Although there are many NFL stars making fashion statements off the field, many are not hitting the mark. Terrell Suggs made an impression at a black tie event, though not a favorable one. His white blazer choice puzzled many. Who wears a white blazer with dark black stripes? He also didn’t bother tying his bow tie. Michael Vick didn’t bother wearing a full suit for this event. Luckily nobody in the crowd could see his legs or those sandals! We hope he has a full suit for events where he’s not standing behind a podium.

It’s important for NFL players to present themselves well off the field. Many NFL franchises are paying for their star power. Being well dressed is an important part of this persona. Any athletes out there reading this should definitely come to Jospeh’s for their custom suit needs! Just ask any of our former clients how much they love their outfits.

Joseph Wendt is go-to custom clothier for top NFL players

Roddy+White+Matt+Ryan+Philadelphia+Eagles+2rdGAKvzr73l

Are you ready for some football? As the upcoming football season is scheduled to kick off on September 4th many of the NFL greats are gearing up to look their best pre and post-game. Fashion has been an integral part of professional athlete’s lifestyles throughout the sports industry. For years, NFL players have come to Joseph Wendt Custom Clothiers as their go-to custom clothier for suits and dress shirts.

I was recently in Atlanta visiting with Matt Ryan and Roddy White to see how they are preparing for the upcoming football season and fit them in some great new suits.

Matt Ryan is the starting QB for the Atlanta falcons. He is a seven year veteran who has thrown for over 153 touchdowns and over 20,000 yards. He has always had an eye for fashion and I’m grateful that he has called upon me to give him some advice on what to wear this upcoming season. Matt and I have been collaborating on his sense of fashion for a couple of seasons now and have really found his style. His style includes everything from well fitted suits for those post-game interviews to everyday casual wear.

Roddy White is a wide receiver for the Atlanta Falcons. He is a 10 year veteran who has over 9,000 receiving yards and over 50 receiving touchdowns. Roddy White decided to join Matt Ryan and I on finding the latest fashion craze for the upcoming football season. His style is very fashion forward which will make him stand out in any post-game interviews. While at the same time he is looking for new and upcoming fashion trends.

There are many professional athletes that I have worked with throughout the years. From former NFL Star and TV analyst Michael Strahan to NLF stars Darrelle Revis and Adrain Peterson.. and these are just to name a few.

Don’t Clash or Crash: Cycling to Work in Style

cycling

Sometimes getting out of bed in the morning and groggily making your way to work is enough energy for your morning routine. However, a new craze has come along! Biking to work is now becoming increasingly more popular. People have always biked to work, whether its your environmentally conscious friends or your freakishly fit acquaintances, and others just like to avoid the rush of traffic in the morning hours. For whatever reason you bike to work, there has always been one complaint, “I always have to change my clothes after.” This age old problem has kept people from slipping on their spandex and packing their work clothes for the day.

With the popularity of biking to work at an all time high, a new industry has been created. Suits designed to bike to work and take meetings in. Companies like Parker Dusseau have developed a suit you can bike to work in using Marino Wool-Spandex Blend, a stretchy material. The crtoch has a diamond design instead of a four way seam, providing flexibility and comfort.

Although these suits are pricey, $495 for the jacket and $295 for the pants, it still provides a gateway to new designs and new ways to get into this niche market. So, next time you think about grabbing your bike rather than your keys, don’t hesitate!

NFL Draft 2014 – Fashion Recap

The 2014 NFL Draft did not disappoint. The best part of the Draft is the realization that the NFL season is nearly upon us! But as we know, the Draft is more than about football. The red carpet is rolled out and these men show up in one-of-a-kind custom suits. For more than 20 years, Joseph Wendt Custom Clothiers has worked directly with professional athletes including over 100 NFL players and head coaches. So, as you can imagine, I have a vested interest in seeing what the up and coming stars are wearing.

Justin Gilbert made a big statement showing up in a light-colored suit for an evening event — but it without a doubt paid off. Gilbert looks amazing and fresh in his light blue ensemble, and the red accents in his pocket square and tie are the perfect slash of color!

Image

Mike Evans also got lucky with his color combinations. I admire his bravery to mix patterns between shirt and tie.

Image

Southwest Florida’s very own Sammy Watkins kept it simple and classy with his draft-day outfit, and the subtle plaid pattern of his suit made it one of my favorites of the night.

Image

Jadeveon Clowney knew well before the draft that he was going to be holding up a Texans jersey, because that tie matches the his new jersey well. The rest of his accessories are sleek and simple.

CJ Mosley is making a bold choice with the patterned bow-tie and light suit. I’m always happy to see a non-black suit make its way into the sea of traditional mens formal wear.

New Baseball Fashions

It’s spring, which means it’s baseball season!  Sports fans and fashion fans that we are, we always keep an eye on changing uniform designs, making certain to keep track of the kinds of changes, good or bad, that appear in those erstwhile duds.  After all, a team’s entire character can be truly defined by the look they sport.  And while some…  Recent changes haven’t…  Been very positive (*cough*2012 Miami Marlins uniforms*cough cough!*)…  And baseball as a whole, unlike football, rarely changes their looks, there were still a few changes to make note of as the season opened on Sunday.  Let’s take a quick look, ignoring extremely minor changes, like the Cleveland Indians changing what they identify as their primary logo, but not actually changing their uniforms.  We’re only looking at the major new uniforms, pretty much all of which are new “alternate” uniforms.

Atlanta Braves

Atlanta-Braves-NewThis is the new Braves alternate uniform, called the “military appreciation” jersey.  Red has always been part of the Braves color scheme, but this one is unique because it ditches the iconic tomahawk from the Braves logo, and adds a patriotic flourish of stars inside the logo script.  We like it!  It’s a bit garish for our tastes, but not too much (*cough*2012 Miami Marlins uniforms*cough cough!*), and in such a staid and old fashioned league like MLB, a splash of color is appreciated.  Salute!

Chicago Cubs

New-Chicago-Cubs

The Cubs actually introduced a ridiculous ten alternate jerseys to be used this season, but this one is out favorite, the “main” alternate road jersey.  It’s a total throwback to the Cubs’ looks from the 1920s, a golden age for baseball, and just reeks of the history and American-ness of Major League Baseball.  Just wonderful.

Kansas City Royals

BZ7OkaiCEAAgE5Y

The Kansas City Royals rolled this beauty out recently, and we really love it.  It makes great use of the Royals’ colors, and features the team’s “KC” logo for the first time on the actual uniform.  Unlike a lot of alternate jerseys, which try their hardest to look “weird,” this one looks like it could have been the actual Royals uniform in another timeline.  The blues and piping just look perfect.

San Francisco Giants

BfVEIsECYAAEU_I

Another winner, this alternate jersey uses the Giants’ orange color to good effect, but the real winner here is the throwback script and black piping, which haven’t been seen in a Giants uniform since 1982.  A great combination of modern and classic, exactly what an alternate uniform should be.

Stylish in the NFL

Our own intrepid leader, Joey Wendt, attended the 2014 NFL Owners’ meetings in Orlando this week, where all of the NFL’s coaches, managers, GMs and owners were putting their heads together to discuss the future of the League.  We’ve dressed a lot of NFL players and personnel in our time, and Joey is always out there making sure that the NFL’s finest are looking their best!

In honor of the occasion, let’s take a look back at some of the NFL’s most stylishly sartorial men from over the League’s long history.  Let’s be honest, being stylish and in the NFL is a relatively recent development (which we’d like to think we had something to do with! :D), so most of these guys are of a recent vintage.
