Mens Summer Fashion

beach

Summer is here! Well in Florida we don’t really notice a difference, we didn’t have much of a winter luckily. But with summer comes a change in attire. Men will start wearing more loose fitting outfits, shorts, boat shoes, hats and sunglasses. As a guy, what should you be wearing this summer? What are the summer fashion do’s and don’ts? We’ll walk through some of the basic clothes you should be sporting for summer.

Boat Shoes
Boat shoes are the quintessential summer shoe. They’re not just for boats anymore, but are more often seen on men wearing shorts. If you do plan to sport boat shoes, make sure you don’t wear socks! This is a definite don’t for these shoes.

Stylish Sunglasses
Now is the time to invest in a nice pair of sunglasses that will last. If you’re going for a classic look, aviator shades are always in style. Head to Sunglass Hut and test on a few pairs. Stick with dark colors like black and brown. Colors like white, orange, yellow stand out, but don’t fit a man trying to look sophisticated.

Bring out the pastels!
Don’t drab down your wardrobe with dark colors like grey, black, brown. It’s summer! Celebrate with bright colors. These lighter colors will also make you feel cooler in the sun. Go for some yellows, aqua, orange, lime, even pink if you’re feeling confident.

No ties needed
Summer is a time for relaxation. So undo that tie and let your neck breathe! If you plan to go out on the town, try going for a blazer and button down combo sans tie. Combine this with a pair of tan or white pants (if you can pull them off).

Roll up your pants
It’s summer, and it’s hot! You can roll up those pant legs just a bit during this time of year. Just make sure you are wearing shoes without socks like loafers. This style doesn’t look good with socks.

Men’s Bathing Suit Guide

beach-ocean-sea-2728

Luckily for Floridians, we get to enjoy a much milder and shorter winter than the rest of the country. So it’s almost time to shed those sweaters and long pants in exchange for swimsuits and towels at the beach. You check your closet only to see old, outdated trunks that don’t even fit anymore. Time to go out and find that perfect swimsuit! Here’s what is in style now and what trends you want to be sporting at the beach.

Trunks

This is the most common swimwear for men in the US. They look just like shorts, which is probably why they have gained such popularity. The fabric is different from shorts in that it is a fast-drying material like nylon or polyester. They may also contain an interior lining.

Boardshorts

I thought these were the same as trunks? Some places like to interchange the term. Boardshorts are just longer versions of trunks. Usually they come to or past the knee. The waste is typically non-elastic.

Square Cut Shorts

These are similar to trunks but are skin-tight. They are much better for active use, like swimming laps or competitive sport. They come in long and short versions.

Swim briefs (Speedos)

These are typically popular in Europe, though many Americans like to sport them. They are similar to briefs and are tight.

So which is right for me?

Sportswear

If you plan to use this swimsuit mainly for doing laps in the pool, you will want to go for a tighter fitting suit. Trucks and boardshorts will just get in the way. Stick with the tighter square cut shorts to give yourself a streamlined movement.

In Style

Definitely the most trendy swimwear for men are shorter trunks. These don’t need to be extremely short, nor should they be tight. The bottom of the trunks should reach about mid to ¾ of the way down the thigh. Get them fitted, as bulky trunks are unflattering. Go for a stylish color, maybe a turquoise or peach.

Conservative

There are many swim trunks available that look just like regular shorts. Get them in your regular length, and a simple, solid color like black, navy, or tan. This will give you a professional look while you’re out on the water.

What Men Should Pack for a Weekend Getaway

During the summer, its always nice to break away from the office routine and the business hours by going on a weekend trip. At Joseph Wendt Custom Clothiers, we firmly believe everyone needs a break. Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean you can’t take your style with you wherever you may be traveling to. We know packing may seem like a daunting task with the fear of overpacking and under packing; the stress can get to people. Here are a few ways you can relax on a getaway with easy, cool style and the perfect amount of clothes.

PANTS

While on a weekend getaway, depending on where you are going, it is wise to pack a few pairs of pants even in the summertime. Opt for one pair of jeans and one pair of slim khakis. These both are very versatile pieces that go with just about everything. Wear them to the airport, dinner, or a night out on the town!

SHORTS

One of the most vital pairs of clothing you will need for your summer weekend getaway. Shorts are the trademark of summer, by exchanging your long pants for a charming short is one of the best parts of the season. Be sure to pack one khaki short and one patterned short. Wear these around the hotel, out to lunch or soaking in the sun.

SHIRTS

Wearing one is usually optional, but here we have some pointers for you anyway. You will need to pack 3 shirts for your vacation, perfect for the amount of days you will most likely be gone.

  • One is a floral shirt, think beach and relaxed vibes, that you can wear to the beach or on a sunny day.
  • One thin summer sweatshirt, for if it does get a bit chilly, you can wear on a night out.
  • One simple pocket tee, which is great for the airport or traveling. Its easy and will help you cool down.

In addition to these, a simple navy blazer is always excellent to have on hand just in case. This packing list will be sure to give you a memorable and fun weekend getaway over the summer.

Don’t Clash or Crash: Cycling to Work in Style

cycling

Sometimes getting out of bed in the morning and groggily making your way to work is enough energy for your morning routine. However, a new craze has come along! Biking to work is now becoming increasingly more popular. People have always biked to work, whether its your environmentally conscious friends or your freakishly fit acquaintances, and others just like to avoid the rush of traffic in the morning hours. For whatever reason you bike to work, there has always been one complaint, “I always have to change my clothes after.” This age old problem has kept people from slipping on their spandex and packing their work clothes for the day.

With the popularity of biking to work at an all time high, a new industry has been created. Suits designed to bike to work and take meetings in. Companies like Parker Dusseau have developed a suit you can bike to work in using Marino Wool-Spandex Blend, a stretchy material. The crtoch has a diamond design instead of a four way seam, providing flexibility and comfort.

Although these suits are pricey, $495 for the jacket and $295 for the pants, it still provides a gateway to new designs and new ways to get into this niche market. So, next time you think about grabbing your bike rather than your keys, don’t hesitate!

‘Tis the Season for Weddings: What you need to know to look your best

weddingsThe summertime doesn’t just welcome warm climate, beautiful scenery and relaxing times. It also welcomes the start of wedding season. Summer weddings are gorgeous and heart warming. Unfortunately, your heart isn’t the only thing getting warm. Summer weddings are notoriously hot and can make any guest uncomfortable, especially the men. Men have always been expected to wear penguin suits on formal occasions such as, weddings. However, at Joseph Wendt Custom Clothiers, we have the right tips for every man as they suit up for a lively night of celebrating.

Here are some of the tips and guidelines to follow when attending a summer wedding. Keep in mind though, this isn’t your day so don’t be to over the top to where you over throw the bride and groom. Be comfortable and stylish with your outfit and enjoy it!

THE SUIT

The suit is the most important part of any mans ensemble. Nowadays, men aren’t expected to wear heavy, black tuxedos to any wedding. Our most important rule is to have fun with what you’re wearing. Wear a khaki suit or patterned jacket. As long, as the dress shirt matches and your confidence shows in what you’re wearing, GO FOR IT. Look for a slim, nice fitting suit or jacket when browsing for outfits. With the warm temperatures, stick to linens or cottons to avoid the embarrassing sweat marks at the reception.

THE TIE

This is usually the detail of the outfit that men get most creative with. We agree that getting creative with a tie can brighten up any old suit. It also lets others see what your personality is really like if you get quirky with these details. Always go for a windsor knot, whether you do a half or full windsor depends on your head size. If you have a bigger head, go for a full windsor, and if you have a smaller head go for a half windsor.

THE SHOES

Get a white buck skin shoe. TheY go with everything and they add a point of interest to any look. They may get dirty depending on if its an outdoor occasion or not but you will look better with it anyway.

THE DRESS SHIRT

Its the summertime so that means you should go for more relaxed colors, like a light pink or lavender. Depending on how crazy you are planning on going with the suit jacket and tie maybe go for a light gray. Either way, a nice light lavender or pink can add a pop of color to any outfit, especially if you’re not planning on going over the top.

Dress for Success all Summer long

13bd131b3a5637a006e6ee94f61e412bWe all know the drill. It’s July in Florida. Every morning you step outside, it’s already well over 75 degrees with at least 75% humidity. I think our friends up north think it’s no big deal. We just go from an air conditioned home to an air conditioned car to an air conditioned office, but the reality is your entire wardrobe changes during the summer months, even for us in Southwest Florida.

I’m sure you’ve noticed around your office that more skin is exposed, hemlines are shorter and sleeveless shirts have replaced sweaters. That’s mainly because, as a society, the summer seasons are more casual and laid back. Some offices have shorter hours on Fridays or at least casual Friday where employees can wear jeans and even shorts.

Nicole Williams, a LinkedIn career expert and best-selling author says, “when the weather is warmer we often lose the tights and the layers and toss on our spring brights and sandals. I’ve seen flip-flops, short shorts and tiny tank tops at professional workplaces.”

Williams says flip flops, shorts, spaghetti straps, halter tops, tube tops, and miniskirts are the biggest attire “mishaps” among women in the office. “These all belong at the beach, bar, gym or privacy of your home – not at the office,” says Williams.

To avoid any dirty looks, it’s important that the employer and employees set a clear summer dress code, so that everyone is on the same page.

When in doubt, don’t: If you think a piece of clothing could be inappropriate for the office, it probably is

Strike a balance: A comfortable, happy employee is a more productive employee. However, employers must also remember that a sloppy or skimpy dress can be distracting to co-workers and can also affect productivity and customer service.

Be polished: No matter what the time of year, it’s important to make a good impression and present a professional image. Just because your company has a relaxed dress code does not mean you can be a slob.

If you can wear it to the beach, don’t wear it to work: It doesn’t matter how cute your beach coverup is. If it can be worn with flip-flops it can’t be work in the office

Don’t wear flip-flops around the office: flip-flop immediately make any outfit casual. Save them for the weekends.

No ponytails: Yes, it’s hot out and a so you want to put your hair up, but rather than throwing your hair up, curl the ends of your hair with a big curling iron. It doesn’t take long and will look much more professional around the audience.
