Joseph Wendt Jetsetter’s Guide

You love to travel. The airport is like a second home to you. Some of the flight attendants even know your name. You’re a jetsetter.

Or maybe you’re a busy business traveler. Or you just enjoy a few vacations each year. No matter the occasion, travel is a big part of our lives, especially plane travel. It can be tough to enjoy travel when you’re crammed into an economy middle seat on a 12 hour haul across the Pacific.

Fear not weary traveler. We have put together this guide to help your next plane experience as comfortable as possible. Sit back, relax, put your tray table up, and get ready for the ride.

How to Find the Best Seats

You have your tickets, now it’s time to pick seats. The last thing you want to do is be stuck in a middle seat, and you don’t want an obstructed view, but how can you pick a seat without really seeing the plane? Sites like Seat Expert, Seatmaestro, and SeatGuru let you know the best and worst seats on your specific plane.

What to Bring on the Plane

On the plane, you’ll want your necessities like headphones and something to keep you occupied like a book or tablet. But you’ll also want a few other items handy:

  • Comfortable socks- Don’t keep your shoes on the whole time during a long flight. Change into new socks to let your feet breathe.
  • Water bottle- Have an empty water bottle as you go through security. Fill it up before you board your flight.
  • Gum- Prevent your ears from getting clogged by chewing gum.
  • Snacks – Longer flights will serve you, but many short flights don’t. Bring snacks like jerky, trail mix, or snack bars to fill you up.
  • Meal- If you know the flight is 3+ hours, grab a sandwich to bring on the plane.
  • Tylenol or Advil- Always safe to have it!
  • Ear Plugs- Don’t let a noisy neighbor prevent you from getting some shut eye

What to Wear

Yes, being a jetsetter means you want to be stylish, but don’t compromise feeling comfortable for looks. You will regret wearing a tie on a 7 hour flight, we guarantee it. Dress casually.

For guys, this may mean chinos and a dress shirt or a nice t shirt with a jacket. Ladies, avoid the heels. Nobody wants to walk through a concourse in shoes, especially if you’re late and have to run.

If you are on an overnight flight, bring a change of clothes like sweatpants and a t-shirt so you feel somewhat more comfortable.

Now you’re ready to head off on your next journey! If you’re a business traveler or just need a suit for your next adventure, let Joseph Wendt Custom Clothiers tailor to perfect outfit for you.

Anatomie: The perfect travel clothes for women available at Joseph Wendt Custom Clothiers in Naples

For many years, Joseph Wendt Custom Clothiers has been known for providing custom shirts and suits for men. This past year we have introduced a new ready-to-wear women’s line available at our downtown 5th Avenue South store in Naples, Florida. The feedback from the women who have purchased this brand has been only positive. Below are some testimonials from a few women who say they LOVE Anatomie.

Image-2“Love your clothes and have recommended them to many. I am an associate professor at Duke University of ophthalmology and dermatology. Attached is a picture (left) from the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas just prior to doing live injections of Restylane and Perlane to a crowd of over 200 physicians as I wear the white Budah mesh top. It travels so well. I am wearing it with a white sequin skirt from BCBG and received so many compliments on the outfit. Image-3You can see that i have my microphone on ready to go!

“My husband and I were ready to try something different. It takes all of our fortitude each day to choose intention over convention, the present over the planned and the moment over minutia. It takes courage to admit that our All American Life felt less like a dream and more like a marathon we forgot we signed up for. We tried to change course in incremental degrees but it proved too tempting to go back to what we have always known – the prescribed path of education, career, family, picket fence, baseball and apple pie from Costco. We had to go big for little reasons. We sold our beautiful house, fence and all. We sold our well-maintained, safe, cars. We donated our toys, sporting goods and household items. Everything we own now fits into five carry-on bags. We did this because we wanted our moments back and taking care of our stuff was distracting us from taking care of ourselves and each other.

IMG_4731After more than 300 days on the road in Europe, we have spent time in nine countries and counting. We have learned how to shop at markets and run errands and “live” our day to day lives in seven new languages laden with hundreds of new customs. Most importantly we have spent every day together exploring Europe for almost a year. Each day is precious. When we decided to only pack 5 carry-on bags on this open ended journey, I had to research how to not compromise on style or function and that is when I found Anatomie. My Skyler travel pants are the cornerstone of my wardrobe. I have worn them hiking in the Alps and on beach walk on the Southern tip of Portugal. I have worn them to fancy dinner engagements in Tuscany and to poolside barbecues in Provence. As a mom, it is rare for me to have fully functional and practical clothing that also makes me feel feminine and put together. I love Anatomie of that reason. I haven’t sacrificed any style by getting rid of 99% of my wardrobe. If anything, having less makes me more particular about style and function and I won’t settle if I can only fit one pair of pants in my suitcase.

We left because we wanted to regain the freedom we lost in “struggling” to keep our American Dream alive. We feel it now as a family. We feel like anything is possible and as my son said this week on the cliffs of Normandy, “We do a lot of living in a day!” We are grateful every day for the gift of time together. Thank you Anatomie for being a part of this journey!”

Are you ready for some football? As the upcoming football season is scheduled to kick off on September 4th many of the NFL greats are gearing up to look their best pre and post-game. Fashion has been an integral part of professional athlete’s lifestyles throughout the sports industry. For years, NFL players have come to Joseph Wendt Custom Clothiers as their go-to custom clothier for suits and dress shirts.

I was recently in Atlanta visiting with Matt Ryan and Roddy White to see how they are preparing for the upcoming football season and fit them in some great new suits.

Matt Ryan is the starting QB for the Atlanta falcons. He is a seven year veteran who has thrown for over 153 touchdowns and over 20,000 yards. He has always had an eye for fashion and I’m grateful that he has called upon me to give him some advice on what to wear this upcoming season. Matt and I have been collaborating on his sense of fashion for a couple of seasons now and have really found his style. His style includes everything from well fitted suits for those post-game interviews to everyday casual wear.

Roddy White is a wide receiver for the Atlanta Falcons. He is a 10 year veteran who has over 9,000 receiving yards and over 50 receiving touchdowns. Roddy White decided to join Matt Ryan and I on finding the latest fashion craze for the upcoming football season. His style is very fashion forward which will make him stand out in any post-game interviews. While at the same time he is looking for new and upcoming fashion trends.

There are many professional athletes that I have worked with throughout the years. From former NFL Star and TV analyst Michael Strahan to NLF stars Darrelle Revis and Adrain Peterson.. and these are just to name a few.

What Men Should Pack for a Weekend Getaway

During the summer, its always nice to break away from the office routine and the business hours by going on a weekend trip. At Joseph Wendt Custom Clothiers, we firmly believe everyone needs a break. Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean you can’t take your style with you wherever you may be traveling to. We know packing may seem like a daunting task with the fear of overpacking and under packing; the stress can get to people. Here are a few ways you can relax on a getaway with easy, cool style and the perfect amount of clothes.

PANTS

While on a weekend getaway, depending on where you are going, it is wise to pack a few pairs of pants even in the summertime. Opt for one pair of jeans and one pair of slim khakis. These both are very versatile pieces that go with just about everything. Wear them to the airport, dinner, or a night out on the town!

SHORTS

One of the most vital pairs of clothing you will need for your summer weekend getaway. Shorts are the trademark of summer, by exchanging your long pants for a charming short is one of the best parts of the season. Be sure to pack one khaki short and one patterned short. Wear these around the hotel, out to lunch or soaking in the sun.

SHIRTS

Wearing one is usually optional, but here we have some pointers for you anyway. You will need to pack 3 shirts for your vacation, perfect for the amount of days you will most likely be gone.

  • One is a floral shirt, think beach and relaxed vibes, that you can wear to the beach or on a sunny day.
  • One thin summer sweatshirt, for if it does get a bit chilly, you can wear on a night out.
  • One simple pocket tee, which is great for the airport or traveling. Its easy and will help you cool down.

In addition to these, a simple navy blazer is always excellent to have on hand just in case. This packing list will be sure to give you a memorable and fun weekend getaway over the summer.

Don’t Clash or Crash: Cycling to Work in Style

cycling

Sometimes getting out of bed in the morning and groggily making your way to work is enough energy for your morning routine. However, a new craze has come along! Biking to work is now becoming increasingly more popular. People have always biked to work, whether its your environmentally conscious friends or your freakishly fit acquaintances, and others just like to avoid the rush of traffic in the morning hours. For whatever reason you bike to work, there has always been one complaint, “I always have to change my clothes after.” This age old problem has kept people from slipping on their spandex and packing their work clothes for the day.

With the popularity of biking to work at an all time high, a new industry has been created. Suits designed to bike to work and take meetings in. Companies like Parker Dusseau have developed a suit you can bike to work in using Marino Wool-Spandex Blend, a stretchy material. The crtoch has a diamond design instead of a four way seam, providing flexibility and comfort.

Although these suits are pricey, $495 for the jacket and $295 for the pants, it still provides a gateway to new designs and new ways to get into this niche market. So, next time you think about grabbing your bike rather than your keys, don’t hesitate!

‘Tis the Season for Weddings: What you need to know to look your best

weddingsThe summertime doesn’t just welcome warm climate, beautiful scenery and relaxing times. It also welcomes the start of wedding season. Summer weddings are gorgeous and heart warming. Unfortunately, your heart isn’t the only thing getting warm. Summer weddings are notoriously hot and can make any guest uncomfortable, especially the men. Men have always been expected to wear penguin suits on formal occasions such as, weddings. However, at Joseph Wendt Custom Clothiers, we have the right tips for every man as they suit up for a lively night of celebrating.

Here are some of the tips and guidelines to follow when attending a summer wedding. Keep in mind though, this isn’t your day so don’t be to over the top to where you over throw the bride and groom. Be comfortable and stylish with your outfit and enjoy it!

THE SUIT

The suit is the most important part of any mans ensemble. Nowadays, men aren’t expected to wear heavy, black tuxedos to any wedding. Our most important rule is to have fun with what you’re wearing. Wear a khaki suit or patterned jacket. As long, as the dress shirt matches and your confidence shows in what you’re wearing, GO FOR IT. Look for a slim, nice fitting suit or jacket when browsing for outfits. With the warm temperatures, stick to linens or cottons to avoid the embarrassing sweat marks at the reception.

THE TIE

This is usually the detail of the outfit that men get most creative with. We agree that getting creative with a tie can brighten up any old suit. It also lets others see what your personality is really like if you get quirky with these details. Always go for a windsor knot, whether you do a half or full windsor depends on your head size. If you have a bigger head, go for a full windsor, and if you have a smaller head go for a half windsor.

THE SHOES

Get a white buck skin shoe. TheY go with everything and they add a point of interest to any look. They may get dirty depending on if its an outdoor occasion or not but you will look better with it anyway.

THE DRESS SHIRT

Its the summertime so that means you should go for more relaxed colors, like a light pink or lavender. Depending on how crazy you are planning on going with the suit jacket and tie maybe go for a light gray. Either way, a nice light lavender or pink can add a pop of color to any outfit, especially if you’re not planning on going over the top.
