5 ways to improve yourself

Now, this isn’t a New Years blog post, or a self help post, this is about ways you can better yourself. You don’t need to have a midlife crisis, move to a new country, or quit your job to make changes in your life.

This article is about simple and not-so-simple ways to improve yourself. Some of these ideas can be done each day (read a book) others will happen over time (learn a language). But it’s important to pick a few you can realistically stick with. Sure, we all want to learn a language, read 3 books a month, train for a marathon, and start a new business but doing all of those at once is a recipe for disaster.

The best method is to start slow. Work on one thing at a time. One problem we run into, the New Years Resolution problem, is that we are hyped up to do this new change but the motivation only lasts a month or two, and we are back to our old ways.

You need to build that intrinsic motivation that can sustain these new changes. So why are we talking about this on a fashion blog? Because we don’t consider ourselves just about fashion. Sure, we create custom suits but we believe that suit has the ability to make you feel different and change how you feel about yourself. It’s like working in one place, but going outside or to a coffee shop to work and you feel a whole new sense of motivation. We’re all about helping you feel and be your best, that’s why we wrote this article.

  1. Read a book each day
    It doesn’t matter if you read it in the morning or at night, read fiction or non-fiction. You can do it at the gym, before work, before bed. When you feel the need to watch tv, pick up a book instead.
  2. Create an exercise routine
    Don’t wait until January 1 to start a workout routine. There’s never a best time to start something, just do it now. Create a realistic schedule that you can see yourself sticking to. Maybe going to the gym 3 times a day on your way from work. If you find that at night you like sitting down and relaxing, don’t leave working out for the night time.   3. Avoid negativity
    When you wake up in the morning, is it common to find yourself checking social media or watching the news? These two things can be filled with negativity that can already impact your mood. Start your day without checking your phone, and if you must, check something like Instagram. Also try to avoid negative people. If you have a coworker who constantly complains, try to eat lunch after them or sit away from them. “You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with,” says Jim Rohn.
  4. Reduce mindless activities
    We love the buzz and rush we feel when we post on social media and see notifications. Your phone vibrates and we have to know who is calling. We just finished work and want to lay on the couch and watch 4 hours of TV. I’m not going to tell you not to do these things, but I will say that reducing your time on these activities will free up time to do other things. We all say we’re busy, but how much of our day is spend doing mindless tasks? Try doing a social media detox for a week, then try again for a month. See if you miss it.
  5. Start a journal
    Journals aren’t just for teens writing about their bad day at school. Writing down your thoughts can help you understand them better. You’ll be able to gain insights and clarify your thinking when you write down what’s in your mind. You can use a blank journal or try a templated one like the 5 minute journal.
